Synopsis

As the fall season nears its end, Chidori Yoshino, a member of Strega, abducts Junpei Iori. Meanwhile, Makoto Yuuki and the Specialized Extracurricular Execution Squad (SEES) annihilate the Arcana Hanged Man. Soon after, a mysterious playboy named Ryouji Mochizuki transfers into Gekkoukan High School's Class 2-F.

Supposedly having achieved their goal, the members of SEES believe they are free from the battle that has ruthlessly stolen away the lives of their loved ones. And yet, Tartarus and the Dark Hour continue to exist, undeterred by the extermination of the twelfth Shadow. Distraught by their apparent failure, SEES must cope with their personal struggles and discover whose sake they fight for. As Makoto and Junpei's journeys of self-discovery progress, Ryouji's identity and the reason behind Aegis's hate for him become clear.

COGITO ERGO SUM - I think, therefore I am.

Story:
The third installment in the Persona 3 movie tetralogy has a difficult job of juggling multiple moving parts within the story, which is justifiably tough. unfortunately, the pacing of the movie suffers this, especially since it's the shortest movie in the persona 3 movie series. It makes up for the fast pacing by putting a lot of emphasis on the new character of Ryoji, who I'll get to in a second. The movie does end on a cliffhanger, but it isn't a real problem for me, since it only invigorates interest in the 4th movie.

This movie is very good, however, if you have played the games and are now watching the movies be prepared to be disappointed by some select decisions made by the director. I will now discuss in spoilers below.

1. They flubbed Junpei and Chidori's relationship and it made the beginning of the movie quite confusing. However it is later reconciled with decent development between the two.

2. This movies pacing is very meh to say the least, it jumps from scene to scene very often with no real flow and it was jarring to watch as a fan of the games. It is very hard to make ...

Mixed Feelings

Still manages to feel a bit empty compared to the games; maybe I'd enjoy the movies more if I stopped comparing them, but it's pretty impossible. This puts a lot of focus on Ryoji, and I was never a fan of him in the first place, so I was never bound to like this movie, I suppose. Has some well-adapted moments though and some things it does continue to do better, but it's just lacking overall and makes for a so-so movie.
