Brilliant to be at the House of Lords this week with Small Business Britain to bring together an awesome group of disabled entrepreneurs for a networking event. The conversations were as thought provoking and wide ranging as ever, from what makes for good mentoring for businesses (Lisa Kerr, ACC, CALC, FCA, FCSI, Assoc. CIPD) to the challenges and opportunities in getting applicants to think deeply about the skills they hold rather than just the things they have done (Joseph Williams ♿️🏳️🌈 )Great, as always, to hear from Michelle Ovens CBE and loved the infamous team T-shirts featuring favourite quotes. Brilliant also to hear about the trials and tribulations of networking from Louise Plunkett, I hope she’d agree that Wednesday was one of the good ones! Our team at were proud to sponsor the event and David Hall shared a little about the journey we’ve been on to understand, engage and act to support disabled entrepreneurs over the last couple of years. Picture shows Jo in a dark red dress alongside team mates David, Kimberley and Julie, managing to enjoy some sneaky sunshine out on the terrace, overlooking the London Eye and Thames.

✨’Speak from the heart, be honest and remember: there isn't anything you can't achieve.’ ✨ Great advice from The Lloyds Bank British Business Excellence Awards I can’t wait to meet the incredible shortlisted businesses on Monday when I am lucky enough to be on the judging panel for the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Champion award. No doubt it will be a day full of inspiring people and ideas and I can’t wait to share these with my team back at #BBEA24 Sarah Austin

Spending time hearing the stories of entrepreneurs is definitely one of the best bits of my job and it was a pleasure to learn more about 9 brilliant businesses at the Foundervine x Immerse Early Stage Accelerator Demo Day this week. Loved joining Varun Bhanot, Jay Gujral and Andrew A. on the judging panel and hearing their perspectives in our deliberation room, we spent way longer than our allocated time in discussions (sorry Bukky!) but it was due to the impressive range of businesses and quality of the pitches.Well done to all the businesses pitching, it takes time to prepare the quality video presentations we were treated to and guts to stand up in front of a big room of people and answer questions. Huge congratulations to cubbi who took our first place prize, Mama Dolce and ColorBlend's Kesha Williams BA (Hons) who were runners up. Such exciting ventures and looking forward to seeing what comes next! It was also great to chat with Natasha Orumbie about her business The Vegan Patty Lady (and to taste the delicious samples!) and to meet the founder behind Umthi, a natural hair and body brand. Thank you to all the Foundervine and Lloyds team who have worked so hard to make the accelerator happen and check out https://lnkd.in/eCXC-QU4 for more info on support available.

Slightly different post this morning as I reflect on an incredible couple of weeks of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. I can remember so clearly watching Barcelona 1992 as a excited 6 year old and it was a real joy to be able to introduce my own children to the Olympics this time around. 🚴♂️ 🏊♂️ 🏇 🤸♀️ 🏃♀️ It left me reflecting daily on the incredible lessons that the Olympics and Olympians teach us. I had planned to pull together my thoughts but thought this image from Martha Brook summarised it perfectly! My only build would be the pride in seeing so many Olympians celebrating huge achievements with their young families watching from the sidelines, reminding us all of the great things that can be achieved if we support parents, and especially mums, to return to work effectively and don't put a cap on their ambitions. In particular, Amber Rutter winning her silver medal in the skeet event a few months after the birth of her child, just incredible! Now looking forward to the incredible Paralympics at the end of the month.

The last time I was at the The British Library was a good few years ago as I prepped my dissertation, so it was great to be back this evening to attend an event hosted by to celebrate National Women’s Enterprise Week.I hadn’t previously been familiar with the rich (and free) support available to business owners from the BIPC and it was brilliant to hear more about this from Liz Jolly. It’s definitely worth a look.I particularly enjoyed hearing from the panel of women entrepreneurs. A real common theme was businesses driven by and grounded in purpose, with incredible stories behind them. So many excellent insights, I can’t do them all justice but a few favourites included: - Britain will only fulfil its full economic potential when women fulfil theirs - Alison Cork MBE 👏- Always ask yourself, what can I outsource, what can I delegate - Esther Solomon-Turay - Be mindful that fear doesn’t hold you back - Amina Alkazemi, MSc - Be ready to adapt and reinvent - Suki Pantal Amelia Peckham also shared her view of the importance of access to finance to enable the growth of businesses. Which highlights the important role financial services has to play and I’m proud to play a part in that

It was National Social Mobility Day yesterday and I was inspired to post after seeing my feed light up with colleagues and connections discussing this agenda. Love to see the airtime this is getting, as it's such an important topic. From my days at university as Student Access Officer at Pembroke College, Cambridge with particularly fond memories of travelling around schools in Suffolk in a mini bus(!) to my more recent work supporting our internal diversity, equity & inclusion agenda at Lloyds Banking Group, it’s something I’ve often come back to over the past 20 years.I'm proud to have attended a brilliant state school and am forever grateful to my family and teachers who helped inspire my love of learning and nurtured my confidence. I've met many who've had far more challenging journeys feeling at home at university and in the City and it's so important to acknowledge these experiences and think about how we create inclusive environments where diverse talent can thrive. Delighted to see the recent launch of the Boost network at Lloyds which is a new colleague group who champion diversity and social mobility, with a particular focus on ensuring everyone can be their true self at work. For any LBG colleagues seeing this, they are running a fireside chat this afternoon at 3pm.The more diversity (in all respects) that we can bring in and support within financial services, the better our teams and our industry will be.#ShareMoments #LoveToWorkAtLBG

Last Thursday I spent the morning at the Women Entrepreneurs Finance Code: Community of Champions UK Study Tour which brought together representatives from around the globe to learn from the UK experience of establishing the Investing in Women Code. The Code aims to support the advancement of female entrepreneurshipby improving female entrepreneurs’ access to tools, resources and finance from the financial services sector and have been proud to be a signatory since the start. It was a pleasure to join Debbie Wosskow, OBE and David Raw CBE on a panel to provide an overview of the UK approach and the strategic rationale for this moderated by Inez Murray of Financial Alliance for Women. It was a fantastic morning and I took away a few key reflections:- You have to start somewhere - we talked a lot on the panel about what more there is to do, but the reality is that making a start is far better than standing still. - There's so much energy and positive momentum around moving this agenda forward which is brilliant to see. - It was amazing to be in a room of such diverse individuals representing different institutions and countries from around the world. Speaking to a room of over 90% women remains a big novelty and never gets old!
