Critics Consensus

Despite Zac Efron and Nicole Kidman's welcome return to rom-com territory, A Family Affair squabbles with its own tonality too much to elevate its litany of clichés.

A Family Affair (2024) | Rotten Tomatoes (1) Jacob Oller AV Club Directed by Richard LaGravenese, every moment in A Family Affair sits there as lifelessly as Gerard Butler’s character in LaGravenese’s most successful movie, P.S. Bobbie E Very predictable story. Zero chemistry between the cast. Rated 0.5/5 Stars • Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 10/26/24 Full Review Kristyn L I didn't want to watch this movie because I quickly glanced at the reviews. Now, after reading them in full, I understand most of the reviews were based on a superficial topic rather than actual talent, storyline, or entertainment. So, let me rectify the errors of our misplaced society, even if just in a very small instance. First off, Nicole Kidman is beautiful and I loved seeing her in this role. It was relatable because I saw her as someone who unknowingly dissapears, forgetting what inspires them as time passes on and letting other people take the spotlight because you feel your moment is gone. Then someone comes into your life and makes you feel seen again, and they truly love the things you've done and are even inspired by you. Zac!!! I loved the subtle nod, "The Quadfather" and then talking about your chin afterwards, ESPECIALLY after reading the bad reviews, it was spot on, and also kind of sad, in so many ways. Your comedic timing was delightful and made me laugh outloud quite a few times, and the ending character revelation was a perfect description for Chris's journey throughout the film. I thought it was great character development and also love that the assistants role in Chris's life played such a big part in making a person see the error of their ways after they lose what matters to them without even realizing it. Overall a good romantic comedy, I'd definitely see it again and recommend the movie. Aí a casa cai. Tudo no filme é mediano. Vale apena assistir? Se não tiver outra opção.
